The Kawartha Male Chorus was established in September 1990 by a small group who shared a dream of a male voice choir in this area of the Kawarthas. The conductor for the first four and a half years was Susan Carston. She was succeeded until June 1998 by the former accompanist Al Nicholson. In January of 1995, Lynne Davis became the accompanist for the chorus and George Hedge assumed the baton in 1998. The chorus is a member of the Associated Male Choruses of Ontario, one of six member districts of the Associated Male Choruses of America who's membership lists 1,500 singers in the United States and Canada. In 1952, a group of Ontario male choirs joined together to form the Associated Male Choruses of Ontario (AMCO). At that time, the newly formed Association applied for membership in the Associated Male choruses of America and thus began an affiliation that continues today. The AMCO is one of six districts in the International AMCA and is active in providing leadership to the Board of Directors of that body. In addition to the Executive Secretary (Bill Bates - Kawartha Male Chorus), two of the six Associated Male Choruses of America International Executive members are from the Ontario District. AMCO choristers participate regularly in concerts across the border and at centres throughout Ontario. This bond of fellowship which began almost fifty years ago continues to be enjoyed by the seven choruses and their over one hundred seventy-five Canadian members.
